SPRING WEAVING

I've been getting back to the looms as the garden is drying out from all the sun and lack of rain.  So trying to get blogging caught up as well. 

Early this Spring, I finally made a scarf for my college roommate that I've promised for a couple years.  For warp, I chose some 8/2 tencel in colorway 'Thailand' from my favorite dyer, Tammy at YarntopiaTreasures in New Mexico.  This was wound on the warping board to preserve the color blocks and to get a length that would work for a cowl and a scarf.  For weft I used a plain greyed teal for the cowl and dark teal for the scarf. 
Interestingly I liked the dark teal better while weaving, but after finishing, I preferred the grey teal. 
It is an 8 shaft pattern done on my Schacht Mighty Wolf. the pattern is from Rebecca Kaye, a weaver on facebook.

DEFEAT MYELOMA - Remission Possible 2017

  Team REMISSION POSSIBLE is running again this year to raise funds for Multiple Myeloma Research.

This is the third year we have participated: 
2015 -a few months after my diagnosis. 
2016 -eight months after my stem cell transplant, 
2017 -I'm now 20 months post transplant, and in my 17th cycle on maintenance meds in a clinical trial. 

Originally we ran under the non-profit volunteer organization of MOVE MMORE, Multiple Myeloma Opprotunities for Research. We are  now known as DEFEAT MYELOMA.  And we continue to  donate all funds, fees and sponsorship income to Fred Hutichinson Research Center specifically for Myeloma research.  
Dr. Damian Green has used these funds in his research. Here he talks about this year's event and what it means for Myeloma and blood cancer patients everywhere.

Why do we need the kind of research Dr. Green at Fred Hutch is doing?
Because there is no cure for Myeloma..........
What does incurable mean? --
It means we get treated with one therapy combination until it no longer works. When that one stops working, we have to try another difficult treatment or newly developed chemotherapy. -- One after another, on and on and on, ----
---until there is nothing left that works.
This is why we need the kind of research Dr. Green at Fred Hutch is doing.
And why we need local fundraising in order to get bigger grants.

I just received this inspirational video from Mark - a Myeloma friend - and arborist in Seattle with Madison Park Tree 

He has dedicated himself to many amazing fundraising events for Multiple Myeloma research over the years! -- the NYC marathon for the LLS, MoveMMore, thrithalons, etc. and this year Defeat Myeloma. 

He trained for the Kilimanjaro climb but his maintenance meds stopped working and he needed a new trailblazing treatment so he couldn't do the climb in the the end. 

Please watch this video of some amazing folks dedicated to finding a cure for Myeloma.

The 2017 Defeat Myeloma race will provide critical funding that will enable Dr. Damian Green and fellow researchers to open a clinical trial for patients with Multiple Myeloma. 

He has spent years developing a targeted form of immunotherapy that 

delivers radioactive particles directly to myeloma cells! 

They are now in the final stage of the process and anticipate opening the 

clinical trial in the next 12 - 18 months.  

Additional funds are needed to pay for the production of the antibody treatment 

in quantities suitable for human trials.

RAINY WINTER WEAVING

When one doesn't want to get out into the garden in cold rainy weather,
there are always the looms. 
So during two months of record breaking rains, I've played indoors.  

Combining a wonderful 8 shaft draft from Rebecca Kaye on facebook with handdyed Tencel from Tammy Haughney of Yarntopia Treasures in New Mexico has resulted in a shimmery cowl and scarf in colors just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

Cancelling the gift sale at Group Health this week.

After totally overdoing it at the gift show in Edmonds last week, I became very run down and actually developed a bad head cold that won't go away.

Unfortunately, I find that I must cancel doing the Group Health show in Bellevue where I was scheduled to have my scarves and hats on Nov. 29th.  

I'm very torn about having to do this, but I just don't have the energy in me, and have to try to get well.
I am doing more weaving to fulfill some orders, please get in touch if I can help you in any way.

CURRENT HAT INVENTORY

It has been a while since I posted pictures of my felted Hats. 
These are the 15 I currently have as of Nov. 18th 2016.  they will be going with me to the fall sales. 
First sale is Nov. 19th in Edmonds and then to Bellevue Group Health Nov. 29th. 

If you can't make it to the sales, just call or email to arrange a time to come see them and try them on.  

The prices range from $50. to $60. Some are Alpaca and some are wool. Sizes vary. I can often adjust the size up or down a little bit. 
The flower pins and hat bands  on them are removable and optional. ( unless the band is part of the material) 
If you have a hat from previous years I'd be glad to refurbish it if it is in need.
